EEBUS Certification officially launched: test slots at the Living Lab Cologne are now open for booking

The certificate provides the technical proof of conformity for grid control under § 14a EnWG and § 9 EEG. It is issued by EEBUService GmbH, and each certified product is added to the directory of EEBUS-certified devices.
Cologne, 21 July 2026. The EEBus Initiative e.V., together with its subsidiary EEBUService GmbH, is launching the EEBUS Certification – the official testing and verification procedure for devices implementing the EEBUS standard, and a technical proof of conformity for grid control under Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG) and Section 9 of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). Applications are now open to all manufacturers; the first devices from selected member companies are already undergoing testing as part of a Trial Certification.
The certification builds on the EEBUS Pilot Qualification, through which technical feasibility was validated in practice. The scope of testing, however, goes well beyond that of the Pilot Qualification. It verifies the correct implementation of the EEBUS specifications at both protocol level (SHIP and SPINE) and application level. Four Use Cases can be certified: LPC (Limitation of Power Consumption, § 14a EnWG), LPP (Limitation of Power Production, § 9 EEG), as well as MPC and MGCP for monitoring. In addition, automated commissioning via the SHIP Pairing Service is part of the testing scope. Every certified product receives a unique Cert-ID with a QR code and is entered into the public EEBUS certification database.
The procedure is clearly structured: manufacturers prepare based on the official test specifications and submit a digital application to EEBUService GmbH; the EEBUS Living Lab Cologne then tests the physical device strictly against those specifications. Once testing has been successfully completed, the Living Lab issues a Test Report. Based on this report, EEBUService GmbH – the official certification body – then issues the certificate. With good preparation, testing in the lab usually takes only a few days.
As part of the initiative’s non-profit mission, the technical testing is free of charge; a one-off administrative fee of €1,500 covers the formal review of the documents, the issuance of the certificate and the database entry. Test slots are assigned in order of application and subject to availability, with priority given to EEBus Initiative members. The initiative recommends applying 4 to 6 weeks before the desired testing period.

The EEBUS Certification is aimed at manufacturers of control boxes and Smart Meter Gateways, energy management systems (EMS) and controllable systems such as heat pumps, charging stations, battery storage and PV inverters. EEBUS Zertifizierung startet offiziell: Testslots können ab sofort im Living Lab Cologne gebucht werden
Das Zertifikat bietet den technischen Konformitätsnachweis für die Steuerung nach § 14a EnWG und § 9 EEG. Die Ausstellung erfolgt durch die EEBUService GmbH und führt zur Aufnahme des Produkts in das Verzeichnis der EEBUS-zertifizierten Geräte.
Köln, 21.07.2026. Die EEBus Initiative e.V. startet gemeinsam mit ihrer Tochtergesellschaft EEBUService GmbH die EEBUS Zertifizierung – das offizielle Prüf- und Nachweisverfahren für Geräte, die den EEBUS Standard implementieren, und ein technischer Konformitätsnachweis für die Steuerung nach § 14a EnWG und § 9 EEG. Ab sofort ist die Anmeldung für alle Hersteller geöffnet; die ersten Geräte ausgewählter Mitgliedsunternehmen befinden sich im Rahmen einer Trial-Zertifizierung bereits in der Prüfung.
Die Zertifizierung baut auf der EEBUS Pilot-Qualifizierung auf, mit der die technische Machbarkeit in der Praxis validiert wurde. Die Zertifizierung geht im Prüfumfang deutlich über die Pilot-Qualifizierung hinaus. Geprüft wird die korrekte Implementierung der EEBUS Spezifikationen auf Protokollebene (SHIP und SPINE) wie auf Anwendungsebene. Jedes zertifizierte Produkt erhält eine eindeutige Cert-ID mit QR-Code und wird in die öffentliche EEBUS Zertifizierungsdatenbank eingetragen.
Der Ablauf ist klar strukturiert: Nach der Vorbereitung auf Grundlage der offiziellen Testspezifikationen und der digitalen Anmeldung bei der EEBUService GmbH prüft das EEBUS Living Lab Cologne das physische Gerät strikt gegen die Testspezifikationen. Nach erfolgreicher Prüfung stellt das Living Lab einen Test Report aus. Auf Basis des Reports stellt die EEBUService GmbH dann als offizielle Zertifizierungsstelle das Zertifikat aus. Gut vorbereitet dauert die Prüfung im Labor in der Regel nur wenige Tage.
Die technische Prüfung ist im Rahmen des gemeinnützigen Auftrags der Initiative kostenfrei; für die formale Prüfung der Unterlagen, die Zertifikatsausstellung und den Datenbankeintrag fällt eine einmalige Verwaltungsgebühr von 1.500 € an. Die Testslots werden nach Eingangsreihenfolge und Verfügbarkeit vergeben, Mitglieder der EEBus Initiative haben Vorrang. Die Initiative empfiehlt eine Antragstellung 4 bis 6 Wochen vor dem gewünschten Prüfzeitraum.
