During a visit by the EEBUS board to Beijing, the NARI Group Corporation joined the EEBUS initiative on 17 April 2018. The NARI Group Corporation is the largest Chinese supplier of plants and systems for energy generation and distribution. It is a subsidiary of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), which was established in 2002. SGCC is a state-owned company with responsibility for the majority of the grid operation and energy generation in the People’s Republic of China. It is the world’s largest energy supply

The NARI Group Corporation, which is working with SGCC to develop a smart grid in China, became a member of the EEBUS initiative during an official signing ceremony last week in Beijing. ” NARI actively participates in international standardisation organizations. EEBUS is committed to defining global standards covering the interconnection and interoperability of multi-industry intelligent systems and equipment, making its own contribution to global standardisation vigorously. It’s a great honor for NARI to join in EEBUS as an official member,” said Tao Min, vice president of the NARI Group, during the joining ceremony.

Cooperation with the Chinese energy industry increases global importance

“With its open language for energy in the Internet of Things, EEBUS is an important part of the standardisation processes in Europe, for example in relation to demand side flexibility, which involves connecting the smart grid with end consumers. This includes smart homes, commercial premises and individual sectors, such as e-mobility charging and renewable energy generation,” explained EEBUS board member and CENELEC president Dr Bernhard Thies. He added: “We will only be able to introduce global standards for this important communication technology if the Chinese energy industry and electricity sector are taking part in the process. The fact that SGCC, the largest energy supplier in the world, has become involved gives us the necessary backing to achieve this.”

Initial areas of cooperation chosen

The membership of the SGCC subsidiary NARI Group Corporation will make it possible to establish a long-term cooperation between the EEBUS initiative, its member companies and the Chinese energy industry. Following the official joining ceremony, the representatives of the partners took part in a joint workshop to investigate the initial areas of cooperation.

EEBUS chairman Peter Kellendonk explained: “We look forward to working with our new partners. The Chinese industry is taking an impressively thorough approach to introducing new technologies and this will give a new impetus to our goal of establishing a global language for energy in the Internet of Things. We have already been able to identify the initial areas where we will be cooperating with the NARI Group Corporation. We will now press ahead with taking concrete action.”

For EEBUS and its Chinese partners the important areas of cooperation include predictions of energy demand of large buildings and its coordination this with consumers, systems for e-mobility charging, energy generation facilities and the smart grid.

EU: standardisation must not be a one-way street

The European Union welcomed the NARI Group Corporation’s membership of the EEBUS initiative. “Developing a smart grid and the Internet of energy are important for managing Europe’s future energy needs and consumption better and for providing a digital modern infrastructure to Europe’s economy,” said Philipp Barth, head of CONNECT Section for communications networks, content and technology in the delegation of the European Union to China. He explained: “International cooperation regarding underlying standards is valuable not least to facilitate international value chains.”

Philipp Barth was keen to ensure that the cooperation was on an equal footing. ” Complementary to this, the best way to achieve technical interoperability right from the start is to ensure that EU-invested companies can play a meaningful role in China’s complex standardisation landscape – in the same way that Chinese-invested companies already play such roles in Europe.”

The cooperation between the EEBUS initiative, its member companies and its Chinese partner, the NARI Group Corporation, lays firm foundations for achieving this, with the direct involvement of the most important players in China.
