Cologne, Germany – 10 October 2024 – The EEBUSummit 2024, held on 25-26 September, was a resounding success, bringing together over 300 participants, 20 inspiring speakers and more than 750 coffee specialities to foster lively discussions and innovative ideas.
The Summit kicked off on 25 September with an inspiring keynote that set the scene for the latest BSI requirements for security at the grid connection point. Industry experts shared insights into future-proof products and solutions based on EEBUS, emphasising the importance of simple commissioning processes and trusted device certification for true interoperability. Key topics included §14a in practice, the digital grid connection point, commissioning and qualification, with contributions from Theben, Vivavis, Advalju, Westenergie, Daikin, PPC, Zählerhelden, ZVEH and EEBUS.
Live end-to-end §14a demonstrations during the breaks showed the practical implementation, realised in collaboration with PSI and Meterpan and supported by Theben. The evening networking event provided a fantastic opportunity for participants to network and explore potential collaborations.
The second day, entitled ‘EEBUS is more than §14a’, featured insightful discussions and presentations on dynamic tariffs and the provision of flexibility and related markets. The day kicked off with a keynote from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Change, who updated attendees on the current status of the smart meter gateway rollout and regulations – as the enabling infrastructure for these new use cases.
The expert sessions were a major highlight, with compelling presentations on a range of topics including dynamic tariffs and flexibility provision, the evolving role of traditional utilities, customer benefits, market needs and research findings, with notable contributions from BET Büro für Energiewirtschaft und technische Planung, gridX, FfE, BMW Group, Intelligent Energy System Services GmbH (IE2S) & EEBUS Initiative e. In addition, the implementation of an in-house developed EEBUS stack and activities in the standardisation landscape were presented by Schneider Electric and Vaillant Group.
A live demonstration, jointly realised with Consolinno Energy GmbH and SpotmyEnergy, showed the practical application of dynamic tariffs via the intelligent metering system and added a practical element to the theoretical discussions.
The presentations of the various speakers have shown a consensus and commitment to the digital interface at the grid connection point of the building. In Germany, this interface not only meets the highest IT security and data protection requirements, but also enables the realisation of various interactions and applications that benefit all relevant actors involved in the energy transition: the grid, the market and the building (customer). It became clear during the two days that EEBUS provides the necessary technology (communication interface and use cases) to integrate renewable energy, electric heating and mobility into the power grid and energy system.
To sum up, EEBUSummit 2024 was a resounding success, providing valuable knowledge and fostering connections that will drive the future of smart energy solutions.
We would especially like to thank our sponsors this year: Power Plus Communications, Miele, KEO GmbH, Schneider Electric, Bosch Energy and Building Solutions, VIVAVIS, PSI GridConnect GmbH and gridX for making this event possible.
