Association & Standardisation

Standardisation

EEBUS does not stop at a de facto standard: our results flow into national and international standardisation bodies – because investment security for mass-market products needs de jure standards.

DE JURE STANDARDS

Why de jure standards matter

The accelerating energy transition demands ecosystems that reach a critical mass – complex compilations of energy-relevant, controllable devices across countless buildings. For the communication interface between them, a de facto standard is not sufficient to ensure the necessary investment of security.

EEBUS therefore focuses on creating de jure standards that allow for secure investment in the development of mass-market serial products. The initiative contributes its experience and results to the joint development of standards in important standardisation bodies and plays a key role in shaping future standards. Further domains for standardisation are consistently being promoted.

„Standardisation is less about what is right and what is wrong but about balancing all interests and domains involved.“

Dr. George Hallak · Director Standardisation, EEBus e.V.

THE STANDARDISATION PROCESS

From market requirement to international standard

EEBUS is the central process driver, generating the best solution from inputs across three areas: our Working Groups, funded research projects and the standardisation and regulatory bodies themselves. The starting points are market ideas and requirements from our member companies and projects – translated into Use Case specifications ready for standardisation.

The EEBUS specification experts ensure consistency and interoperability across the Use Cases and organise cross-industry Plugfests to verify new Use Cases in real systems before release. Our standardisation experts then transfer the Use Cases into the relevant bodies and committees. As an open standard, released Use Cases are publicly available for download.
