ABOUT EEBUS
EEBus Initiative e.V.
A registered non-profit association, owned by no one and open to everyone in the energy ecosystem: this is how EEBUS is developed – and why the standard belongs to the market, not to a single manufacturer.
WHERE WE COME FROM
From a funded project to a market standard
EEBUS started as a result of the E-Energy lighthouse project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs. In 2012, leading manufacturers of energy-relevant devices turned the concept into an association: the EEBus Initiative e.V.
Since then, EEBUS has evolved from a funded project into a technical standard with commercial viability – recognised by the market, by national and international policymakers, by significant industrial associations and global platforms. Today, the EEBUS Certification and our standardisation activities have made it part of the regulatory infrastructure of the energy transition.
How the association is organised
Our organisational structure
The bylaws define three bodies – plus the working structures where the standard is actually written.
Members’ Assembly
The highest body. Every member has voting rights and the assembly meets at least once a year. They elect the board, approve the annual statement and the budget and decide on changes to the bylaws.
Board
Elected for four years, led by a 1st and 2nd chairman. Board members work for member companies – so the association is steered from within the industry. The board admits new members, sets up Working Groups and Task Forces and adopts the code of conduct.
Office
The operational core in Cologne, led by the managing director and employing experts on specification engineering, standardisation, certification support, association development and project management.
Working Groups
Where the standard takes shape. Every member can propose the forming of a Working Group; the board sets them up and defines their scope. Decisions are made by consensus – and only if that fails, by a two-thirds majority.
NEUTRAL BY STATUTE
Why the legal form matters
The initiative pursues charitable purposes and acts non-profit: the association’s funds serve its purpose only, members receive no profit shares. Its stated purpose is the promotion of science, research and environmental protection through the standardisation of interfaces.
A binding code of conduct on cartel law governs the work in all bodies and committees – and requires that the standardisation procedure and its results stay accessible to all interested parties. That is what makes EEBUS an open standard in practice.
FROM WITHIN THE INDUSTRY
Board & management
Our board is made up of experts from across the industry. They all share the same goal: to make EEBUS a global communication standard for energy devices and the grid. The association is steered from within the industry.
