- The pioneers in the field of energy management systems (EMS) form an alliance and combine the advantages of optimising energy markets and local optimisation in an ecosystem for installers.
- The partners offer solar installers in particular quality-assured energy systems consisting of hardware components and energy management processes as well as other services such as training and additional revenue potential.
- At the centre of the ecosystem are the consumer needs of today and the future: full transparency, provider-independent, individual energy management systems and pre-installed services.
- Start of the partnership at Smarter E: Tibber and Kiwigrid invite interested installers to register as partners and to a solar technician event in Dresden.
Berlin/Dresden, 30 April 2025 – Tibber, digital green energy provider and pioneer of dynamic electricity tariffs in Germany, is cooperating with German energy IoT pioneer Kiwigrid to build an installer ecosystem and offer consumers in Germany a future-proof and provider-independent EMS. In the ecosystem, the two partners complement each other’s expertise and services in order to offer installers and their customers quality-assured energy systems consisting of networked hardware components, EMS, smart meters and smart tariffs from a single source. In addition, installers receive supporting services such as training, sales documentation, support, auto-installation routines and additional revenue potential.
With this collaboration, Tibber and Kiwigrid are responding to the increasing trend away from pure hardware systems towards holistic energy systems, characterised by an increase in cost efficiency through end-to-end interlinked, digital processes. Tibber and Kiwigrid enable installers to install a comprehensive, multi-device compatible and manufacturer-independent EMS, independent of all-in-one solutions. The new system combines the energy market-based Tibber EMS with Kiwigrid’s self-consumption-oriented EMS to create a “360-degree EMS” with all-round optimisation, from the home to the energy markets. The Alliance’s bundled offering is built around the needs of the end customer: Full transparency and future-proofing through free basic functions and pre-installed services such as smart tariffs, compatibility with §14a EnWG, time-variable grid charges and many other benefits.
“We bring together the best of two worlds: A digital user experience, coupled with our expertise from the energy industry and Kiwigrid’s highly compatible energy management system. This solution and the resulting ecosystem give installers and customers maximum flexibility – today and in the future,” says Merlin Lauenburg, Managing Director of Tibber Germany. The launch phase of the Tibber and Kiwigrid installer ecosystem will officially start on 1 May 2025.
Today’s electricity customers need EMS – tomorrow’s installers need strong partners
The market for installers and solar installers in particular is changing rapidly and fundamentally. In addition to the challenges posed by uncertain markets, dynamic regulation and major price fluctuations for hardware components, the variety of networked and holistically optimised components is also increasing. The awareness and expectations of end customers regarding the functionalities and capabilities of an EMS are increasing noticeably: from self-consumption optimisation, Vehicle2Home, variable grid charges and flexibility marketing to PV direct marketing.
Against the backdrop of the possible abolition of the EEG feed-in tariff and the simultaneous doubling of installed PV output by 2030, which the German government is aiming for, the perspective of many households is changing. In future, a large proportion of prosumers will rely on optimising their own consumption with home storage systems and direct marketing of their PV electricity. An intelligent EMS is indispensable for both – it not only enables technical participation in the energy market, but also the targeted control of consumption.
“Whereas the focus used to be on hardware components, hardware systems are increasingly being sold today. The future therefore belongs to holistic energy systems: The combination of a hardware system and the associated energy industry added value,” says Dr Ralf Walther, Head of Energy and Regulatory Affairs at Tibber Germany.
EMS market with strong growth – installers as key players
Around 1 million households in Germany already have an EMS. According to forecasts, two out of eight households will install an EMS by 2026. For installers, this means great potential for upselling and sustainable customer loyalty. The 360-degree EMS from Tibber and Kiwigrid was designed specifically for this growing market.
“With our Energy IoT platform, we are providing the central building block for networking our energy management system with the flexible energy market of the future. We are delighted to have gained Tibber as a close partner to integrate the dynamic tariffs into our platform at and to fully utilise the potential of this alliance. With our home and utility labs, we also provide training and certification for the hardware products to be installed,” says Lars Schwarzelt, Managing Director of Kiwigrid.
Tibber focusses on openness – also through participation in the EEBUS standard
At the same time, and as a sign of openness and transparency, Tibber announces its membership of EEBUS e.V. EEBUS is an internationally recognised standard for the interoperable communication of energy devices originating in Germany. “With EEBUS, we are creating the basis for maximum compatibility and a truly open ecosystem – without lock-in effects,” explains Merlin Lauenburg. Dr Robert Böhm, Managing Director of EEBUS e.V., adds: “Tibber is an important driver of innovation in the energy sector and we are delighted to welcome the company as a member.” All energy systems integrated by the 360-degree EMS from Tibber and Kiwigrid have EEBUS qualification.
Installers who are interested can find out more now and register for the launch phase
Tibber and Kiwigrid will be represented at Smarter E in Hall B.5 of EM-Power: Tibber at the joint bne stand and Kiwigrid at its own stand B5.574. Both companies are looking forward to direct dialogue with installers. At the trade fair, Tibber and Kiwigrid will provide information about the new installer ecosystem and show how installation companies can become part of the launch phase and the growing partner network. “We are pleased that we have already been able to attract a large number of installers in the preliminary phase, which encourages us in the design of our overall offering. We are now opening up to other interested parties in the next phase,” says Dr Ralf Walther. Carsten Bether, co-founder and member of the management board at Kiwigrid, adds: “Interested parties with a network of installers, such as car manufacturers or wholesalers, are also welcome.” Tibber will also be giving a daily stand presentation on the partnership with the inverter manufacturer at the Kostal stand (B3.130). Together with Kiwigrid and Kostal, Tibber will enable customers to smartly control and charge various home storage systems in the future.
The aim is to work with the market to establish the best solutions for sustainable energy households. In this way, the partners want to help consumers to achieve their individually most favourable kWh price, consume electricity as self-sufficiently, greenly and energy-independently as possible and thus contribute to the climate-neutral and grid-friendly future of the European electricity market. Interested installers can register for the partner network at tibber.com/de/werde-partner.
About Tibber
As a digital green electricity provider, Tibber helps its customers to consume electricity when it is green and cheap, thereby generating the most favourable electricity price for each individual and making a contribution to the energy transition. To do this, Tibber buys electricity on the electricity exchange and passes it on to users – plus fees and charges. The Tibber app not only offers transparency, but also the right tools with which Tibber’s customers can reduce their own consumption and automatically steer it towards the most favourable phases of the day. This changes the customers’ usage behaviour. The more people consume electricity in this way, the lower the peak loads and the lower the overall costs and emissions of the electricity sector. In this way, Tibber customers are making an important contribution to making Germany climate-neutral. Tibber was founded in 2016 by Daniel Lindén and Edgeir Vårdal Aksnes and currently operates in Germany, Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands. Managing Director of Tibber Germany is Merlin Lauenburg.
